Remember November 8th is Election Day. When you cast your 3 votes for Council-At-Large, please cast one for me. I also ask those who live in the 5th Ward to vote for my Dad, Michael Proehl. He is hard working and honest. He will always do his best for the people of 5th Ward. By voting for both of us you could be helping to make history, but more importantly you will be helping secure Chillicothe’s future.

P.S. Remember to vote NO on Issue #2. A “No” vote on Issue #2 repeals Senate Bill 5. Remember No on 2 = No on 5!

Speaking out against SB5

I attended the rally against Senate Bill 5 on 3/12/2011. The rally was well attended and the message from those in the crowd was clear. Senate Bill 5 will do more than harm our under valued public employees, it will also have a negative impact on our economy and communities. Each of us will be effected by this bad bill.

I had a chance to speak at the event. I relayed my experiences with collective bargaining from both sides of the table. My message was simply “Together is the only way we will move forward.” Taking away from our middle class is damaging to our already fragile economic recovery.

I have picked up my petitions and I am planning to run for City Council-At-Large again. Your support is critical, and I thank each of you who contacted me asking me to run again. Your faith in me means so much to me. I am glad to serve, and glad to have such support from my friends and family. I look forward to an exciting campaign.

Zoning Task Force Meeting

The Zoning Task Force will meet to look at changes to the plan the group submitted to the Law Director. The meeting will be at 3:30 PM on Monday the 30th, 2010.

Pat Patrick, Nancy Ames, and I are all members of the Zoning Task Force. The committee is made up of a number of citizens as well. Together we have worked for over a year on updating the city’s Zoning Codes.

The updates will be reviewed by the Law Director, The Planning Commission, and later Council. There will also be a number of Public Hearings before any changes are made official.

SALT Hog Roast

SALT will be holding a Hog Roast in the Park at the Lion’s Shelter. The Roast will take place starting at 6:00 PM.

Budget Troubles

The information at the finance meeting did not come as a surprise. I have been following this problem. As a member of the finance committee I have watched costs climb and the state of the general fund take shape.

You know I don’t always agree with how council spends money, namely the purchase of a new building. But even those expenditures don’t add up to the General Fund deficit we now face. I believe we have tried to scrutinize spending the past couple years. The problem is not poor stewardship, but things beyond the control of our city.

The recession that has crippled our nation has started to spread its cancer into our community. With revenue projections lower and costs of health insurance higher, the city is now asked to pay more with less.

Our city, despite its problems, is still a great place to live. Our strength has helped keep the recession at bay, but now there can be no mistake we are in a crisis that threatens our way of life.

I believe a levy will be needed to meet our safety service needs. Cuts can, and should be made. A combination of both, and perhaps some restructuring, is needed to see the city through these tough times. No one wants to see a tax or cuts. But no action means no solution.

City Town Hall Meeting 3-10-2010

The Town Hall Meeting that was held at the Ross County Service Center went very well I thought. There was a great turnout and a lot of great questions answered. I think if we did more of these kinds of things people might not be so turned off by government.

I was also pleased with the level or respect paid to both those on the panel and those in the audience. Sometimes it would seem that those who hold public office are at odds with the people who have elected them. It was really refreshing to see a positive discussion of issues take place, and my hat is off to Bruce Arnold for putting the event together.

I am also interested in seeing the results of the surveys that attendees filled out. As soon as I can get a link to where they will be shared I will post it here.

I also want to say welcome to any new visitors. Recently I posted to the Chillicothe Gazette’s message board and talked about having this site. Now, I feel a little pressure to post more to it.

I really don’t know if this site gets all the much traffic, but for those that do visit I will try to make any changes to additions you would like to see. Again, welcome to the site and as always feel free to contact me about any concerns you might have.
